It starts with gray-men from “Time Savings Bank” spreading the slogan “Time is money – save it.” and draws life-blood from unsuspecting inhabitants. Society starts to focus on productivity, cutting out time for friends and hobbies. No one cares to admit life was becoming monotonous.Meister Hora tells the main girl(who has gift for listening) “time=life itsself” and she notices gray-men are stealing them so she decides to fight back. The book symbolizes 1970s, when postwar recovery pushed nonstop-working, producing pollution (gray-men) from industrialization. It warns that excessive capitalism leads to trouble, from the point of socialism. Also, it reminds me of COVID, which made me impatient like, “spend time wisely, experience as much as possible.” Because truly, time will never return, and honestly, some of what gray-men say actually makes sense. I couldn’t fully relate myself to main girl. Rebellious ones tend to rush into things with vague knowledge. Stalin’s regime shows us most revolutions only bring new oppression. Even if it succeeds, it disrupts order and inevitably leads to new inequalities.I think it’s better not to involve with others too much if they’re nothing to me. Anger can drive change, but revolution needs to be carefully built in steps. If I had that kind of time, I’d rather spend it chasing enjoyment. Even if you defeat gray-men, the world won’t magically change like this in reality. Still, what I learned is,time is life itself and life resides in our heart. Nowadays, efficiency is so important that time to be in a daze or time for real communication is sacrificed. I frequently think like, “You do whatever and let me do as I like,” but this girl taught me listening to others’ words expands perspectives and enriches our heart. I don’t know what I’m saying but anyway this book proved there’s no such thing as wasted time. Even the pointless stuff has meaning. What really matters can’t be seen, but you feel it slowly.
