The book about the Willow Alliance, a secret group of animals living in a quiet riverside valley. Toad, the frog is totally reckless. He gets obsessed with cars, crashes them, and sometimes ends up in prison, even escaping by disguising himself as a female jailer. While Toad is away, weasels, stoats and ferrets from the wild wood take over Toad’s home and throw a New Year’s party, doing whatever they please.Mole who’s basically an underground informant, Rat who’s literally a rat, and wise old Badger fight together to save Toad’s riverside home. They eventually succeed to get the home back, and they grow closer through the adventure. In the past, Toad would have just made excuses, but this time, he shows a small but genuine gratitude to his friends. Toad’s life really shows how selfish behavior always has consequences. He starts to change and learns a bit about reflection, but the story ends before he fully grows up. Honestly, his immature and self-centered personality is someone you’d get tired to deal with. Anyway, the way he jump into new experiences, going back to regret for a second looked kind of human-like life to me.Maybe I sometimes act a bit like Toad without realizing it. I thought it incredible that friends around him didn’t abandon who were swinging them. I can’t accept what I can't accept no matter how hard I try. So I can’t be like Toad’s friends.Maybe they might envied his simple-minded wild side just a little. Toad is truly lucky to have friends who sincerely celebrate his gradual growth. The story doesn’t deny him his freedom, but it also shows what it really costs. That perfectly ambiguous ending was what made the story so great.
